SR BAR RANCH

ABOUT

FAMILY LEGACY

Meet the owners of SR Bar Ranch, Sally and Roy Barrera, JR.

I have been blessed to live a lifetime raising horses. My Father appreciated my vision to share my life with horses and purchased my first rope horse when I was nine. My world opened up enjoying the friendly competition of competing in calf roping events across South Texas. My breeding experience began with the Appaloosa breed and I then transitioned into the Paint Horse industry. I have concluded my lifelong journey with the American Quarter Horse. My desire is to promote a pedigree that is bred to excel in ranch work, roping, cutting, and reining cow horse disciplines.

My wife Sally has been my partner for 52 years and has been with me every step of the way. Hence, the origin of SR Bar Ranch, which stands for Sally and Roy Barrera. All of our children have grown up on the ranch riding and showing their horses successfully in AQHA shows across South Texas and Oklahoma.

The Vision FOR SR BAR RANCH

My brood band of mares is an accumulation of purchases from three primary ranches to wit; the Dr. Woody Bartlett Ranch, the Armitage Ranch, and the Pitzer Ranch. These foundation mares have been crossed on AQHA world champions in the disciplines of cutting, reining cow horse, and roping. My goal is to raise strong, functional, athletic, intelligent, equine athletes which are bred for success.

Sally and I welcome visitors and inquiries regarding your interest in acquiring our weanlings, yearlings, and two-year olds. We invite you to join us in our quest to produce and raise superior equine companions who are bred to perform in all ranch and cowboy activities from the arena to the pasture.

Let’s dream together to promote the American Quarter Horse and all that this unique breed has done to enrich the lives of young and old from every walk of life.

MICHELLE RICHARDSON

Michelle is passionate about many things in life — with horses being high on the list. Her tender loving care of the mares and babies at SR Bar Ranch is a joy to behold. She has a way with the yearlings that helps them relax into their training. Michelle studied at Iowa State University with a degree in Animal Science.

Butch

With decades of horse and cattle wisdom, Butch is the “old soul” of the team. He brings a gentle, yet firm hand with the young horse and they love walking up to him in the pen for some scratches and whispers. His contribution is invaluable and his results speak for themselves.
